As the name implies, congenital squint is a congenital deformity of the neck tilted to one side. The cause of this disease is not very clear yet, but I believe that with the continuous progress of medical treatment and scientific development this disease will be conquered by medicine eventually. Congenital oblique neck is a deformity in which the neck is tilted to one side after birth, which is called myogenic oblique neck if it is caused by muscular lesions and osteogenic oblique neck if it is caused by skeletal developmental deformities. The true cause of congenital squints is still unknown. Clinical manifestations include neck masses, oblique neck, facial asymmetry and other complications. The treatment methods are divided into non-surgical and surgical treatments. 1.Neck lump is the earliest symptom discovered by the mother or midwife, and is usually palpable in the sternocleidomastoid muscle after birth, 2-4 cm long and 1-2 cm wide, hard and painless, most obvious in the third week after birth, and gradually disappears after 3 months, usually not more than 6 months. 2.Slanting neck can be found by the mother after birth, the child’s head is tilted to the side of the mass (affected side). It becomes more obvious after half a month, and with the development of the child, the oblique neck deformity becomes more and more aggravated. Facial asymmetry Generally, after 2 years of age, the facial features are asymmetrical, mainly manifested as follows: (1) The affected side of the eye drops due to sternocleidomastoid contracture, resulting in the position of the patient’s eye shifting downward from the original horizontal shape, while the healthy side of the eye rises. (2) The lower jaw turns to the healthy side also because of the contraction of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, which causes the affected mastoid to move forward and the entire lower jaw (chin) to rotate and shift to the opposite side. (3) Bilateral facial deformation due to head rotation, resulting in bilateral facial hole size differences, the healthy side is plump and round, while the affected side is narrow and flat. (4) The distance from the outer corner of the eye to the angle of the mouth line shows that the distance from the outer corner of the eye to the angle of the mouth line on the same side becomes shorter, and it becomes more and more obvious with the increase of age. Therefore, the treatment should be carried out before school age, not later than 12 years old. 4.Other (1) The accompanying deformity can be checked for hip dislocation, cervical vertebral deformity, etc. (2) Visual impairment is caused by squinting neck, both eyes are not at the same level, which can easily produce visual fatigue and affect visual acuity. (3) Cervical scoliosis is mainly caused by the head and neck rotating to the healthy side, thus causing compensatory scoliosis to the healthy side. This disease makes the child born with physical deformity and psychological unhealthy, we should give them more care, not only in life materially to help them, but also in the spirit of psychological to give them more encouragement, so that their life will not be affected by their own body, but also have a bright future.
