What are the signs and symptoms of terminal liver cancer?

Before dying, patients with advanced liver cancer will have various symptoms such as pain in the right upper abdomen, extreme wasting, severe jaundice, ascites, respiratory difficulty, generalized swelling, oliguria, anuria, gastrointestinal bleeding, coma and so on. Before dying, patients with advanced stage of liver cancer may suffer from pain in right upper abdomen due to the pulling of liver surface membrane caused by increasing cancer tumor. Since the tumor consumes the patient greatly, the patient will have extreme wasting, in addition, the tumor compresses intrahepatic bile ducts, which may lead to severe jaundice. Due to the low function of protein synthesis of liver, patients with advanced stage of liver cancer may suffer from hypoproteinemia, which may lead to ascites and edema of the whole body. If the amount of ascites is too large, it may affect the respiratory function and lead to respiratory difficulties; moreover, the decrease of effective circulating blood volume of these patients may lead to hepatorenal syndrome and the symptom of oliguria and anuria. Due to portal hypertension, patients with advanced stage of liver cancer may lead to esophagogastric fundus varices, which may lead to upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and symptoms of black stool and vomiting blood. Due to the elevation of blood ammonia, patients with advanced stage of liver cancer may lead to hepatic encephalopathy, which may lead to mental behavioral abnormality and coma and other symptoms.
