How to measure heart rate

Heart rate is the frequency of heart beats per minute, which can be measured by counting the pulse, measuring with a stethoscope, or doing an electrocardiogram.
1. Counting pulse: The value of heart rate is equivalent to the value of pulse, you can find the radial artery on the wrist where the beat is obvious, and output the frequency of pulse in one minute, which is the value of heart rate, but it is not applicable to patients with short pulse and atrial fibrillation.
2. Measurement with a stethoscope: You can also use a stethoscope, placing the head of the stethoscope in the midclavicular line at the fifth intercostal space where the apical beat is obvious, and timing the number of times the heart rate is measured in one minute.
3. Electrocardiogram (ECG): The time between two adjacent R-waves can be calculated from the ECG, and the result is the heart rate by dividing the time between them by 60.
The heart rate should be measured in a resting state. If the heart rate is abnormal for a long period of time, it is recommended to find out the cause of the disease in time and target treatment to avoid delaying the condition and causing other damages.
