There is no definite time when labor will be imminent and it depends on the circumstances. Usually from the 14th week of pregnancy, pregnant women may experience physiological contractions, which can be felt as hardening and tightening of the stomach. Irregular tightening and firming of the stomach is also known as false contractions, and false contractions do not mean that labor is imminent. False contractions are inconsistent in frequency, shorter in duration, and are not effective contractions. If the pregnant woman feels that her stomach is hard and tight more frequently, with shorter intervals of about 5-6 minutes, lasting for 30 seconds or more, accompanied by the disappearance of the cervical canal, dilatation of the uterine opening, and the further descent of the prelabor, it is necessary to consider that it may be a sign of impending labor. If a pregnant woman experiences hardening and tightening of the stomach more than 10 times in 24 hours, she can consult the obstetrics and gynecology department in a timely manner, and undergo ultrasound and fetal heart rate monitoring according to the week of gestation, and hospitalization is required if necessary.
