Dang Pi, or Peony Peel, has a bitter, pungent flavor and is slightly cold in nature. It belongs to heart, liver and kidney meridians.
Peony skin is the dried root bark of peony in the buttercup family. It can clear heat and cool blood, activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis. Mudanpi is cold in nature and can activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis, so it is forbidden to take Mudanpi in cases of blood deficiency, cold deficiency, pregnant women and women with excessive menstruation.
