Normal temperature range for children

The normal range of body temperature in children is 36-37.5°. A temperature lower than normal is called hypothermia, while a temperature higher than normal is called fever. The normal body temperature in childhood is slightly higher than that of adults because children’s metabolism is relatively vigorous compared with that of adults and the development of the thermoregulatory center is not yet perfect. Normal body temperature fluctuates between day and night, low in the morning and slightly higher in the afternoon, but the range of fluctuation does not exceed 1℃. Diet, strenuous exercise, crying, overdressed, room temperature is too high, emotional excitement, etc. can make children’s body temperature rise temporarily, this temporary temperature change does not belong to pathological fever. Measurement of body temperature is highest in anal table, followed by oral table (sublingual), and lowest in axillary table, with the difference ranging from about 0.3 to 0.5℃. Normal body temperature (axillary) is 36-37.4℃. Therefore, when the body temperature is abnormal, go to the hospital in time, complete the examination, identify the cause of the disease, and then give targeted treatment or treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
