A rigid endoscopy can be performed by having the patient remain seated with the head turned to the side and then the examiner holds the rigid endoscope and gradually probes into the ear canal. If the patient has a narrow ear canal or a large curvature of the ear canal, another examiner can cooperate by pulling the patient’s auricle back and up to help reduce the curvature of the ear canal and alleviate any discomfort in the ear during the endoscopy. If there is cerumen or inflammatory secretions accumulating in the ear canal, these secretions need to be cleaned thoroughly before further endoscopy can be performed.
