Inguinal hernia is a common and frequent disease in surgery. The main reason for the occurrence of inguinal hernia is the weakness and defect of the abdominal wall muscles and tissues caused by various reasons, and the abdominal organs, mainly the small intestine, are able to force their way through the weak point of the muscles and cause a hernia. Thus, the only effective treatment for inguinal hernia is surgical treatment and there is no other way. The principles of treatment of hernias are the same in concept, but the surgical approach varies. Early surgical treatment of inguinal hernias basically revolved around how to strengthen the anterior or posterior wall of the inguinal canal by direct suturing. With the advent of artificially woven mesh, tension-free anterior mesh hernia repair became available. Later, laparoscopic techniques were combined with tension-free repair techniques to achieve day surgery. The “day surgery concept” means that with the use of new technologies, the length of hospital stay and therefore the cost of care for the patient is greatly reduced. By using the “day surgery concept” to treat patients with inguinal hernias, more patients can benefit. With the maturation of laparoscopic technology, many patients have benefited from its characteristics of less trauma, less bleeding, less pain, and faster recovery, and the concept of minimally invasive surgery has been deeply rooted in people’s minds. Therefore, in recent years, this technique has been applied in the field of hernia and abdominal wall surgery, and laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal inguinal hernia patch repair and total extraperitoneal inguinal hernia patch repair without staple fixation have been carried out. It enables to perform tension-free repair techniques with less patient trauma, smaller incisions, fewer internal sutures, faster postoperative recovery and less pain, and, moreover, laparoscopic surgery can cure both sides of the patient’s inguinal hernia at the same time without increasing the patient’s incision and shortening the operation time. Our experience proves that most patients can be discharged from the hospital early after surgery and participate in normal work and activities early. By using the “day surgery concept” to treat inguinal hernia patients, more patients can benefit.
