Symptoms of growing pains

Growing pains occur due to the relatively high activity level of the child and the rapid growth of the long bones, which is not coordinated with the growth and development of the local muscles and tendons, resulting in physiological pain. Growing pain is the pain that occurs when the child’s calf tendons are stretched due to the rapid increase in length. Pathological pain, however, is the opposite of growing pains, as the pain increases with activity and is even limited, and decreases with rest. At this point, it is important not to be negligent and to go to the hospital for examination and treatment in a timely manner. The clinical characteristics of growing pains are irregular and the duration of onset is generally irregular, it may occur several times a month, or once a year or half a year; the duration of each attack may be as short as tens of minutes and as long as several days or even as long as ten days Most of them have no warning and are sudden onset, and most of them can be relieved by themselves. It can occur in any part of the limbs and joints. However, there are more lower limbs than upper limbs, more knees than other joints, usually more right than left, and more unilateral than bilateral limbs; in addition, joints such as shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip and ankle can be seen. The nature and variability of pain, some children do not feel said limb pain and only show lameness and visit the doctor; the variability of pain is also relatively large, either unbearable pain or discomfort; some may be accompanied by short periods of mental lethargy, inactivity, poor diet, etc.; there is usually no fever. The symptoms do not match with the signs, there are no signs or slight repeated examinations, and most of the painful areas have no obvious positive signs, most of them have no activity disorder, and there is no local redness or swelling. The occurrence of growing pains is mostly intermittent. If the pain in children is persistent, it is likely to be caused by other diseases. Parents and friends should pay attention to this, observe their children more often, and have them examined if necessary.
