Do you need surgery for ovarian cysts?

Due to the nature and size of ovarian cysts, not all ovarian cysts require surgical treatment. If a woman’s ovarian cyst is found after ovulation, but the cyst is less than three centimeters in size, and there is no ovarian cyst after menstruation, it is often considered to be a physiological luteal cyst, which is a physiological change and therefore does not require any surgical treatment at all. If a woman has an ultrasound after menstruation and an ovarian cyst is found, and there is no abnormal echo in the cyst, and there is no progressive dysmenorrhea, but the cyst is larger than five centimeters, then surgery is still needed to remove the cyst, but if the cyst is less than three centimeters, then surgery is often not needed. If a woman has progressive dysmenorrhea and an ovarian cyst is found on ultrasound, and the cyst is considered to be an ovarian chocolate cyst, and the cyst is larger than five centimeters, it is best to consider laparoscopic surgery to remove the cyst, and after the surgery, intramuscular injections of treprostinil or goserelin are needed to prevent the recurrence of the chocolate cyst. Therefore, not all ovarian cysts require surgery after examination and diagnosis, but the need for surgery is determined by the specific condition of the cyst.
