Recently, a recently retired aunt Zhang came to the emergency medicine department of Xiamen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine because of severe head pain and sudden loss of vision in her right eye, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Auntie Zhang recalled that she had had many headaches with nausea and vomiting before, but she had taken a few painkillers on her own. The emergency medicine doctor did a few tests and immediately sent Zhang to the ophthalmology department. After examination, it was found that Auntie Zhang’s right eye vision was only light perception, and the intraocular pressure was extremely high reaching 65mmHg, diagnosed as glaucoma. After active treatment and after the IOP stabilized, Director Lin Yuan of the Ophthalmology Department of Xiamen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine successfully performed a trabeculectomy for Zhang’s glaucoma. After the surgery, the patient’s eye pressure was satisfactorily controlled and her visual acuity improved significantly, reaching 0.4 at the time of discharge, and she was now discharged from the hospital. Headache is a common clinical symptom of glaucoma, and most patients who suffer from headache with nausea and vomiting will naturally go to an internist for treatment. It is not known that eye diseases can also cause headache, so we remind our patients that if they have headache and eye pain with vision loss, they should immediately go to the ophthalmology department to avoid delaying the disease and causing irreversible consequences. At the same time, remind the general public that you may have glaucoma if you have the following conditions, you should go to the hospital for examination quickly. ① regular eye swelling, nasal root and arch pain without myopia, farsightedness and astigmatism or other diseases; ② often see a rainbow-like aura around the light or other light sources, as if there is a layer of fog blocking the front; ③ eye redness and congestion, blurred vision, pain is obvious but no secretions; ④ farsighted and nearsighted people in the near future, a significant decline in vision; ⑤ more than 40 years old often replace presbyopic glasses, still do not feel (6) People with glaucoma in their family. Glaucoma is one of the major eye diseases that cause blindness in China. When patients present with symptoms and seek medical attention, the disease has often reached a certain stage of development, resulting in irreversible damage to visual function such as loss of vision, optic nerve atrophy and reduced visual field. Therefore, learning to self-test, if detected and treated early, will greatly improve the treatment effect.
