How do I choose a hospital for cochlear implant surgery?

The birth and maturity of the cochlear implant and its implantation procedure have brought a huge change to the lives of millions of hearing impaired patients and families, freeing them from the bad luck of living in a world without sound for the rest of their lives and leading them to a happy and brilliant life from now on. But, which hospital should I choose to have the surgery at? There is no doubt that choosing the right hospital for cochlear implant surgery has a definite impact on the post-operative outcome, because cochlear implant surgery is a systemic project, and being able to successfully implant electrodes into the cochlea can only be considered part of a successful cochlear implant surgery. From a hospital perspective, the success of cochlear implant surgery depends on several factors. As with the “short board effect”, a deficiency in any one of these areas will affect the final outcome. 1. a comprehensive system of speech audiology and imaging; 2. a solid theory of cochlear implantation and its surgery; 3. rich clinical experience in cochlear implantation; 4. the use of minimally invasive cochlear implantation incisions, which are becoming increasingly popular in the world; 5. perfect conditions for operating rooms and general anesthesia; 6. systematic postoperative tuning and language rehabilitation treatment. Since the mid-1990s, cochlear implant surgery has been carried out in China, and several large hospitals have been able to carry out cochlear implant surgery in their ENT departments, and a large number of specifications related to cochlear implant surgery have been introduced. Some hospitals, in particular, have a wealth of experience in cochlear implant surgery as well as preoperative language assessment and postoperative language rehabilitation due to their early work. Objectively speaking, there is not much of a gap between these hospitals in terms of pure surgical technology.
