Tonsils often refers to the palatine tonsils, is a pair of flat ovoid lymphatic epithelial organs located in the tonsillar fossa on both sides of the oropharynx. Their blood supply is very rich and can be pink in color under normal conditions.
In acute tonsillitis, the inflammation invades the lymphoid follicles in the tonsillar parenchyma, leading to vasodilatation and extensive exudation of interstitial fluid, resulting in congestion, swelling and even pus, and more pronounced congestion and blood-red coloration than that of the surrounding oropharynx can be observed.
In patients with chronic tonsillitis, there is proliferation of lymphoid and connective tissues in the tonsils, microcirculatory reflux is impeded, and the venous blood component is stagnant in the tonsillar parenchyma, presenting a dark red color.
Simply from the tonsils red to diagnose the disease is not objective, need to be combined with symptoms and medical history, if necessary, combined with laboratory tests comprehensive judgment. If you feel uncomfortable with your tonsils or find that they are congested, it is recommended that you actively seek medical attention.
