Do you need long-term medication for diabetes?

Diabetes is classified as type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is an increase in blood glucose due to an absolute lack of insulin production in the body. If you have type 1 diabetes, you have to take insulin for the rest of your life.

If you have type 2 diabetes but have normal insulin secretion and can keep your blood glucose within the normal range by adjusting your diet and exercising, you don’t need medication. If you have an abnormal islet function, or if your pancreas is declining and your blood sugar is not well-controlled, you need to take glucose-lowering medication.
