Can thyroid nodules become cancerous?

Nowadays, only a small percentage of thyroid nodules are detected during physical examinations, and most are found accidentally, such as the appearance of a “throat node” on the neck of some women, similar to that of men, and move up and down with swallowing movements. He said that thyroid nodules will slowly increase in size over time, but at a very slow pace, often within two to three years, and generally do not bring discomfort to patients, and a small number of people who have been ill for a long time will develop hypothyroidism. However, the most worrying thing about thyroid nodules is that 10% of patients with thyroid nodules can become malignant and turn into thyroid cancer. Nodules less than 0.5 cm in size can barely be felt by hand unless the patient himself is particularly thin or has undergone an ultrasound to detect them, and it is generally believed that this condition can be observed regularly without surgical treatment. However, patients with multiple enlargements, calcifications, elevated thyroglobulin indicators in the blood, nodules larger than 0.5 cm, or patients with thyroid cancer in the family have a relatively high chance of cancer, and hyperthyroidism experts recommend that they should still undergo surgery.
