When a patient has headache, eye pain and ear pain, the first consideration is whether the patient has otitis media of the ear, which is an infectious headache caused by bacterial infection of the middle ear. The patient should also consider whether the patient has trigeminal neuralgia. Due to the irritation of the trigeminal nerve by physical and chemical factors or non-specific inflammation, the patient may experience transient episodes of facial pain, often due to washing the face, brushing the teeth or due to other irritating triggers, when the patient exhibits transient, severe pain, which is recommended to be treated with oral carbamazepine.
