Sequelae of general anesthesia in the elderly

General anesthesia for the elderly may have sequelae in the respiratory system, nervous system and cardiovascular system.
1. Respiratory system: general anesthesia for the elderly requires endotracheal intubation, which will cause damage to the airway of the elderly, and may also lead to symptoms such as sore throat and laryngeal edema. In addition, anesthetics have a suppressing effect on the respiratory system, which may cause aspiration pneumonia due to reflux and aspiration.
2. Nervous system: Since the nervous system of the elderly is relatively sensitive, after general anesthesia, cognitive dysfunction, memory loss, delirium after waking up and other sequelae may occur.
3. Cardiovascular system: if the elderly themselves suffer from cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, etc., after general anesthesia, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia and other sequelae may occur.
If the elderly need to undergo general anesthesia surgery, they should go to regular hospitals in time and do a good preoperative examination and assessment in order to minimize the occurrence of sequelae.
