What are the stroke rehabilitation treatments

  There are many stroke rehabilitation treatments, mainly traditional Chinese medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychotherapy and community rehabilitation.  I. Traditional Chinese medicine therapy: (1) Traditional Chinese medicine: All patients need to use traditional Chinese medicine, which has a complementary effect with acupuncture and can lower blood lipids and open blood vessels. In addition to drinking tonics, there are varieties of herbal medicines given intravenously. (2) Acupuncture: Acupuncture is the treatment of diseases using meridians, which are involved in all activities of the body, including external activities and internal emotions. The acupuncture points are mainly taken in the limbs, neck and head following the method of toning the mind and waking up the brain. It is used to promote the recovery of the patient’s mental, physical and speech functions. (3) Tui Na massage: It can reduce joint contracture and deformation, and is an important means to restore the function of limb joints. About 30% of patients need this treatment. (4) Restorative apparatus, such as stroke treatment apparatus and cerebrovascular disease supernatural therapy apparatus, etc. The former mainly addresses muscle function recovery; the latter is very effective in addressing patients’ mental symptoms.  (2) Physical therapy: PT commonly used in cerebrovascular disease rehabilitation mainly includes electrotherapy and exercise therapy, of which the former commonly includes myoelectric biofeedback and functional electrical stimulation, and the latter includes Rood method, Bobath method, Brunnstrom method, PNF and MRP, etc.  (3) Occupational therapy: According to the needs of patients (including daily life, family life and social life), selected and purposeful occupational activities are used for the functional training of patients with cerebrovascular disease. Homework activities include motor skills and qualities, sensory functions, cognitive functions, psychological qualities, and social skills.  Speech therapy: It is used in the rehabilitation of cerebrovascular disease mainly for the treatment of aphasia, in order to improve the patients’ language comprehension and expression ability to restore their communication function and create conditions for social reintegration. Domestic and foreign literature reports that speech therapy can significantly improve the language function of aphasic patients. The earlier the treatment starts, the better the effect.  V. Psychotherapy: A treatment method that corrects abnormal behaviors (such as emotional disorders and incorrect cognitive activities) of patients through words and actions, or in combination with other special means (such as music, biofeedback, etc.). The purpose of psychotherapy is to make patients give full play to their subjective initiative and actively participate in relevant therapeutic activities in order to obtain better therapeutic results.  Recreational rehabilitation project: Recreation not only helps to improve physical functions, but also can invigorate the patient’s spirit and emotion, avoiding the feeling of loneliness and isolation. The methods include listening to music, practicing musical instruments, sewing, painting, etc.  Community rehabilitation: It refers to the rehabilitation measures taken at the community level, using and relying on the strength of the community to provide functional training and other simple rehabilitation treatment for people with disabilities based at home, or in townships or towns (streets), to improve their ability to handle life and labor, so that they can gradually adapt to family life and social life.
