What is the liver elasticity test

Hepatic elastography, also known as hepatic transient elastography (FibroScan), is a technique for accurately and safely assessing liver stiffness through low-frequency ultrasound vibration. FibroScan is an important clinical reference in diagnosing liver fibrosis, assessing the degree of liver fibrosis, evaluating the prognosis of cirrhosis and complications (e.g., esophagogastric fundal varices), and monitoring the therapeutic effects of liver disease. FibroScan is a safe, non-invasive test that causes no pain or discomfort and can be performed in 5 to 10 minutes in a general clinic or outpatient setting. However, subjects are required to fast 2 to 3 hours prior to the test, as blood flow after meals may increase liver stiffness. In addition, FibroScan has a high failure rate in ascites, obese and pediatric subjects, and needs to be evaluated in conjunction with other clinical indicators and tests to enhance diagnostic accuracy, as prescribed by the physician.
