Bupropion increases blood pressure. Bupropion causes an increase in blood pressure and a rapid heart rate, and clinical studies have shown that this drug causes an increase in supine blood pressure in patients with congestive heart failure. This drug should be contraindicated in patients with hypertension. Bupropion is generally indicated for patients with melancholic depression and for depressed patients who do not tolerate or do not respond well to other antidepressants. Adverse effects of this drug include headache, nausea, agitation, dry mouth, insomnia, constipation, and tremor. This drug is contraindicated in patients with a history of bulimia, anorexia, epilepsy, or abrupt withdrawal of alcohol or sedatives, and in patients who are using other drugs containing bupropion or who are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients contained in this drug, and this drug should not be used in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
