The term proximal and distal on the human body refers to the distance from the heart, while the radius is on the lateral side of the human forearm, the side where the pulse can be felt, and the distal radius is near the location where the pulse can be felt. The term distal radius is usually found in fracture injuries, that is, fractures of the distal radius, a location where the bone is just at the junction where the loose bone turns into compact bone. Also, this location is close to the wrist and when falling the arm will involuntarily support the ground, similar to the position when doing a push-up maneuver. The wrist is a joint composed of multiple small bones, and it is less likely to fracture than the distal radius position. So once the fall hand support the ground, it is easy to cause a fracture of the distal radius, especially in middle-aged and elderly people or young adults who often exercise easily cause accidents.
