Inflammatory bowel disease is tricky, don’t always try to hang it

“World Inflammatory Bowel Disease Day”. From January 1991 to December 2010, the total number of reported cases of IBD in China was 342,924 in 20 years. Among them, ulcerative colitis increased more than 2.3 times and Crohn’s disease increased even more than 15 times. The global incidence rate is 149 per 100,000, and the majority of the population is young adults aged 15-35.

IBD that turns the world upside down is too clean, Western-style diet is more likely to lead to the onset According to the introduction, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The high incidence of Crohn’s disease is between the ages of 15-35. Crohn’s disease can affect all parts of the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus, and the lesions can involve the entire layer of the intestine, and the diseased intestine and normal healthy intestine can alternate. In ulcerative colitis, the effects are often limited to the colon (large intestine) and there is no normal intestinal tissue between the diseased bowel segments.

This disease can be said to overturn some of the previous inherent understanding of the disease: for example, clean living environment, Western-style diet is more likely to lead to the development of Crohn’s disease; for example, Crohn’s disease, specializing in attacking the body of young people with strong resistance; the more economically developed regions, the higher the incidence of Crohn’s disease. Not only that, IBD is also characterized by complexity, long course and fickleness, which poses a great challenge for treatment.

IBD is a lifelong disabling disease, and recurrent episodes of abdominal pain and diarrhea can have varying degrees of physical and psychological impact on patients,” said Professor Hu Pinjin, chairman of the Asian Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Colitis Organization and chief expert in the Department of Gastroenterology at the Sixth Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. We are working on a safe, timely, effective and patient-centered health management model, establishing a diagnosis and treatment team composed of multidisciplinary professionals such as medical, surgical, endoscopic, radiological, pathological and nursing professionals to provide timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment for IBD patients, completing ‘admission’, ‘file’, ‘file’ and ‘file’. ‘documentation’, ‘follow-up’ and ‘education’ and a series of other relevant services to help patients return to normal life as much as possible.” He also mentioned that the core of IBD health management is to establish a standardized IBD treatment center; establish efficient referral, interaction mechanism and health education.

Inflammatory bowel disease is one of the most serious diseases in the stomach, kidney and intestinal tract besides malignancy, and is known as the “green cancer”. According to Hu Pinjin, IBD patients are predominantly young and middle-aged. In the growth period but the disease, it will make many patients’ height, weight and other indicators far lower than their peers, which will not only cause a serious decline in the quality of life of patients, but also bring a great burden on social resources, but there is almost no way to prevent IBD, the only clear risk factors are smoking and high-fat diet structure. At the same time, IBD is a very “cunning” opponent, said Hu Pinjin, and treatment can only be “step by step”: different patients respond differently to different drugs, and the same patient may respond differently to the same drug at different stages, and the condition may change at any time. may change at any time.

In the face of such “fickle” conditions and treatment characteristics, IBD patients often need repeated medical and surgical treatment and long-term follow-up, and daily life interventions are equally important, so health education for patients with this disease has become an integral part of the overall treatment system. The IBD Center of Zhongshan Sixth Hospital has organized a series of popularization and health education activities, such as regular health classes every month, as well as a professional website and telephone consultation platform for IBD, and an innovative use of new media such as Sina Weibo and WeChat to carry out a full range of consultation, popularization and health education activities.

On-site live with laughter and peaceful coexistence with IBD Adorable young boys, handsome and beautiful girls with great face value, and lovely white-haired elders, all neatly dressed in green T-shirts with the word “Always in Mind”. From the age point of view, most of them are young and middle-aged people. On the day of the event, more than 150 people from near and far, including new and old inflammatory bowel disease patients and people interested in this disease, gathered together with the IBD team of doctors and nurses from Zhongshan Sixth Hospital to learn and exchange their experiences on how to overcome this persistent disease of inflammatory bowel disease.

The event was divided into three sessions: a special film on inflammatory bowel disease, a lecture on IBD health knowledge, and patient communication and consultation. Zhongshan Sixth Hospital, deputy director of the Department of Gastroenterology, associate professor Zhi Min brought a lecture titled “Always in the heart – overcoming inflammatory bowel disease together”, with insightful lectures, illustrations and text, and applause at the scene, which was unanimously praised by the participating patients and their families. The most touching part was the communication between patients and friends. Patients Xiaolan and Feng (both pseudonyms) took the stage to tell their personal experiences about their journey with IBD until they returned to society, sharing their experiences and lessons learned from seeking medical treatment, which were tearful. The hospital also provided on-site consultation for all of them, answering questions for IBD patients from various aspects such as treatment, care and medication. The whole scene was full of love and positive energy of facing the disease with optimism. A patient sang “Grateful Heart” for Zhi Min on the spot, which was applauded by the audience. Between the sessions, there was also an interactive question and answer session, and those who got it right were given a beautiful gift.

Since January 2011, the Department of Gastroenterology has advocated the establishment of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Friends QQ Group – Beating Crohn’s Disease Together. At present, there are more than 1,250 registered members in this group, which is the largest QQ group for inflammatory bowel disease patients in China, and it has developed from the initial online Q&A by Zimin alone to the regular online Q&A by gastroenterologists in shifts on every Friday night. Since its establishment in September 2014, the IBD Patient Home has held two outdoor activities and an indoor cooking competition, in which many discharged patients and patients undergoing inpatient treatment have come to participate. The activities have not only promoted the relationship between doctors and patients and patients, but also enhanced their confidence to resist the disease, which has achieved better results and made the patients fully understand that they can live, work and play like normal people.

This is also the fourth activity of the “Always in the Heart” IBD patient home in the Sixth Hospital. The purpose of this activity is to let more patients understand IBD and receive standardized treatment, so that more patients can know IBD, learn how to actively treat it, reduce their disease burden and improve their quality of life. It is also a very meaningful addition to clinical practice.
