What’s the use of honeysuckle?

Honeysuckle has the effect of clearing heat and removing toxins (removing heat and toxic evil from the body), dispersing wind and heat (evacuating wind-heat evil from the outside), and is useful in the treatment of febrile sores, warm-heat illnesses and febrile dysentery. Honeysuckle is known as a good medicine for clearing heat and removing toxins, and it is recorded in Xinxiu Materia Medica that it is sweet in flavor, cold in nature, and enters the lung, heart and stomach meridians. It has the efficacy of clearing away heat and detoxification, dispersing wind and dissipating heat. The applications are as follows: 1. It is suitable for all kinds of heat and toxin congestion outside ulcers and internal carbuncles, laryngeal paralysis (redness, swelling and pain in the pharynx, or dryness, foreign body sensation, or itchy and uncomfortable pharynx, difficulty in swallowing), and tannin (acute infectious disease, seen as reddening of the skin as if it had been coated with pigment). 2. It can also treat external wind-heat and warm-heat diseases. It is often combined with burdock, mint and other wind-heat dispersing medicines to treat the first signs of warm diseases, body and head heat, sore throat, and so on. It can also be used with Gypsum and Zhimu to treat warm diseases in which the qi part of the body is full of heat and thirst (high fever with irritable thirst). 3. Used with Huang Lian and Baicalin to treat heat-poisoned bloody dysentery (dysentery caused by feeling heat-poison, with blood in stool). It should be avoided in cases of deficiency and coldness of the spleen and stomach (spleen and stomach weak and cold) and in cases of qi deficiency with sores and pus clearing.
