Types of scoliosis and how to treat it

Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine has an abnormal lateral curve (sometimes accompanied by spinal rotation). A back-to-forth X-ray usually shows an S-shaped or C-shaped spine instead of a straight line. Common classifications include congenital scoliosis, primary scoliosis that occurs in adolescence, and secondary scoliosis due to other factors (e.g., trauma, cerebral palsy). Types of scoliosis: 1, structural scoliosis Structural scoliosis (structural scoliosis) refers to patients lying down when the scoliosis phenomenon does not disappear. Such scoliosis patients 80% of patients with primary scoliosis, followed by secondary scoliosis. 2, non-structural scoliosis Non-structural scoliosis (non-structural scoliosis) refers to patients lying down when the scoliosis phenomenon will disappear. The common factors are neuromuscular lesions, imbalance of muscle tension between the left and right sides of the spine, and unequal length of the two feet (long and short feet). Such patients can often improve their scoliosis symptoms after the cause disappears. 3, structural scoliosis: also divided into idiopathic and non-idiopathic two. The cause lies in the spine itself and can only be improved by treating the spine itself. Unlike non-structural scoliosis, the scoliosis does not disappear when the patient lies down. Idiopathic scoliosis: accounts for 80% of scoliosis and usually begins in children between the ages of 10 and 13 years old, when the body is growing rapidly. Non-idiopathic scoliosis: It is caused by a specific cause, such as neuromuscular disease, degeneration, infection, tumor, etc. Treatment: 1. Posture correction and exercise therapy Patients with a scoliosis angle of less than 20 degrees need to receive posture correction and exercise therapy under the guidance of a physical therapist, and to be followed up every six months to see if the angle has deteriorated. 2.Wearing a back brace Patients with lateral curvature between 20 degrees and 40 degrees or 50 degrees must wear a back brace in addition to exercise therapy to avoid deterioration and follow up every three to six months. Usually more than 30 degrees is recommended to open surgery, in addition to easy treatment, recovery force is also faster 3, surgical treatment Lateral curvature angle is greater than 40 degrees or 50 degrees, it is not recommended to follow the above method of correction, the speed of continuous deterioration will accelerate, surgery is strongly recommended.
