Problems to be noted after full dentures

Patients who are missing all the teeth in the mouth due to periodontal disease, caries, etc. should generally have full dentures (full dentures), and this process is called full denture prosthetic treatment. The full denture is not fixed in the oral cavity like natural teeth, but relies only on the close contact between the denture base and the oral mucosa to hold it in place under atmospheric pressure, and the denture lacks the effective support of natural teeth and other hard tissues, so the first full denture is prone to pain, poor retention, dysphonia, nausea and other symptoms. When these problems occur, do not wear and change yourself, but should be timely follow-up, ask the doctor to be symptomatic treatment. If the mucosa is painful, you should insist on wearing the denture for about 2 hours before going to the hospital for a follow-up examination. In this way, the doctor will give clear positioning and effective grinding according to the minor symptoms that appear on the patient’s oral mucosa. Some patients are so tolerant that they insist on wearing dentures even though the mucosa is broken and painful. However, this can cause more damage to the oral tissues, so please try to avoid it. Full dentures in the lower jaw are prone to dislocation and poor retention for a variety of reasons. On the one hand, it may be due to poor oral conditions of the patient, such as low alveolar ridge, thin mucosa, too little or too thin saliva, etc. In this case, the patient needs to insist on wearing the denture, and after adapting and learning to use the denture, the degree of retention will be gradually strengthened. On the other hand, there are some problems with the dentures themselves, which need to be addressed by a professional doctor in a follow-up visit. In general, the first time to use the full denture patients, often pronunciation is not clear, but after a period of time to wear the denture can quickly adapt and overcome. If you still have pronunciation problems after wearing the denture for a period of time, you should consider the problem of the denture itself, and also need to ask a doctor to deal with it. If nausea or even vomiting occurs after wearing the denture, it may be caused by the posterior edge of the maxillary denture abutment being too long or not fitting well with the oral mucosa, or it may be caused by the patient being too sensitive. In this case, the doctor will review the case and adjust the grinding or insist on wearing the denture in order to adapt. A full denture cannot be truly equivalent to the patient’s real teeth. Therefore, a period of gradual adaptation is required after the initial use of the denture. During this period, you should insist on wearing the denture as much as possible to overcome the difficulty of not getting used to it after wearing the teeth and practice using it more. If there is pressure and pain, you should ask your doctor to modify it in time. In the first few days of wearing the denture, you should practice normal biting habits and pronunciation repeatedly, after getting used to it for a period of time, then use the denture to practice chewing, at first you should put a small amount of soft food on the back teeth to practice chewing slowly, do not use the front teeth to bite and cut. After a period of adaptation, then gradually eat general food. When sleeping, the denture should be taken off and soaked in cold water so that the alveolar ridge can rest properly, which is beneficial to oral tissue health. The denture should be brushed at least once a day, please do not brush with alcohol or boiling water, etc.
