6mm Milled glass nodules are mostly considered to be benign lung diseases such as pneumonia, which are usually not serious, while a few are considered to be malignant tumors such as lung cancer, which are more serious.
Mulled glass nodules can be categorized as pure or mixed. The malignancy rate of pure ground glass nodules is slightly lower, about 18%, while the malignancy rate of mixed ground glass nodules can be as high as 63%. The general malignancy rate for 6mm lung nodules is low, only about 1%.
Therefore, 6mm ground-glass nodules have a low malignancy rate overall, and most of them are caused by benign diseases such as pneumonia and charcoal deposition, and only a small number of them are caused by adenocarcinoma precursor lesions such as carcinoma in situ or lung cancer.
If pneumonia is caused by viral or bacterial infections, most of them can be improved or cured by taking antibiotics such as ceftriaxone, and only a few cases of severe pneumonia have serious conditions. If the nodule is caused by carbon deposition, it is usually not serious, and can be treated with sputum removing drugs such as Ambroxol Hydrochloride to relieve the symptoms.
If it is carcinoma in situ or atypical adenomatous hyperplasia, it is the precursor of lung adenocarcinoma, and there is a certain risk of malignant changes, so it needs to be closely followed up and observed. If it is caused by bronchopulmonary cancer, it may be life-threatening if not treated in time, which is a more serious situation. However, the size of the lesion of 6mm is mostly an early stage of lung cancer, and the prognosis of active treatment is usually better.
It is recommended to consult a specialist to determine the cause of the disease according to the shape of the nodule and follow the doctor’s instruction for further examination or treatment, and the medication should be taken under the doctor’s guidance.
