Can hemorrhoids become cancerous?

Hemorrhoid is a benign lesion, while rectal cancer is a malignant disease, which is the result of infinite proliferation of rectal mucosal epithelial tissue, which occurs when normal cells in the body mutate and become abnormal cells and keep proliferating, whose growth is not controlled by the body’s own immune system and can invade and destroy adjacent or distant tissues and organs. Therefore, benign hemorrhoids are fundamentally different from malignant rectal cancer in terms of pathogenesis, and their ultimate consequences are completely different. However, clinically we also see some patients with hemorrhoids combined with rectal cancer, and the two affect each other to aggravate the symptoms, but scientifically speaking, hemorrhoids do not induce cancer. However, many patients confuse colorectal cancer with hemorrhoids and treat colorectal cancer as hemorrhoids, which results in advanced stage of the disease; some patients are pessimistic and disappointed after suffering from colorectal cancer and lack proper understanding of colorectal cancer knowledge; some patients give up treatment because they cannot preserve anus.
