When a child falls from bed and lands on the back of the head, the symptoms vary in severity, and so does the treatment. If the back of the child’s head is only swollen with a big bag after landing on the ground, a cold compress can be applied to the child within 24 hours. This can be done every 3-4 hours to constrict the local capillaries and prevent the hematoma from getting bigger and bigger. After 24 hours, the child can be given a local hot compress to help promote the dissipation of the hematoma. If the bulge is quite large, you can also apply potato chips locally to help reduce the swelling. The biggest concern after landing on the back of the head, and the most serious, is intracranial hemorrhage. Some of them are only mild concussion manifestations, the symptoms are not obvious, mild vomiting or love to sleep, do not pay special attention, most of them can be relieved by themselves. If there is jet vomiting or even seizures, the situation is serious and there is a high probability of intracranial hemorrhage, so you need to take your child to the hospital in time to improve the head imaging for further clarification. Most of the above symptoms appear within 72 hours after the fall, especially within 24 hours. Generally, if the child does not have any other obvious symptoms after 72 hours, it means that most of them are fine and can not be worried.
