When a tooth is lost and only the roots remain, it is usually the case that only the root tissue is left behind due to trauma or decay of the crown of the tooth. In this case, we should check the condition of the remaining roots, and if the remaining roots are long and not significantly loose, we can consider keeping the roots. After root canal treatment, a metal or fiber pile is placed in the root canal and the tooth is restored with a pile crown, so that the root can serve the patient’s chewing function for a longer period of time. However, if the remaining root is short and significantly loose, the tooth will have to be extracted and the gap will be restored by means of a movable or fixed restoration.
