Diabetic foot is one of the complications of diabetes, which seriously endangers the quality of life of diabetic patients. Very careful care is needed after diabetic foot amputation to avoid infection. So how to take care of diabetic foot after amputation? (1) Observe the signs: perform cardiac monitoring after surgery, closely observe the patient’s consciousness, blood pressure and blood sugar, deal with abnormalities as soon as they are found, keep the respiratory tract unobstructed, and give the patient oxygen if necessary. (2) Pay attention to the dressing for blood seepage: promptly observe the dressing for blood seepage to determine whether there is major bleeding. (3) residual limb dressing: observe the wound dressing dressing situation, dressing elasticity should be appropriate, if the dressing is too loose dressing easily easy to fall off, will lead to wound contamination; if the dressing is too tight, it will affect the blood flow, will lead to local tissue necrosis. The affected limb should be padded with a soft pillow at 20°-30° to facilitate venous reflux and reduce swelling. (4) Stump care: massage the skin of the affected limb 3-4 times a day for 10-20 minutes each time, the action should be gentle at the beginning, and then slowly increase the strength to promote local blood circulation and prevent the occurrence of decubitus ulcers. (5) Pain care: After the patient returns to the ward after surgery, the pain of the affected limb still exists. At this time, the first priority should be to reduce the mental tension and anxiety of diabetic patients, then help them adjust to a comfortable position to avoid compression of the affected limb; secondly, appropriate use of analgesics to relieve the pain of the wound. Some patients will have a phantom pain after surgery, the pain of the disease before amputation still plagues the patient, always unable to get rid of, for this part of the patient in the application of analgesics at the same time, can also use muscle relaxants, anticonvulsants, etc., and physical therapy and distraction, etc., to reduce the patient’s pain, so that they more comfortably through the postoperative pain period. (6) Blood sugar control: controlling blood sugar within the ideal range can promote wound healing. (7) Functional exercise: 6 hours after surgery, patients should be instructed to perform functional exercise, 3-4 times a day for 10-20 minutes each time, such as quadriceps isometric contraction exercise, gluteus contraction exercise, etc., and to do the exercise of each joint function according to different amputation planes to prevent joint flexion contracture. After the wound is completely healed, the skin abrasion resistance of the stump can be increased through exercise, and the body can be fitted with a prosthesis to walk slowly on the ground at an early stage after recovery. (8) Psychological care: physical disability will bring a lot of inconvenience to the patient’s life, requiring the patient to bear great psychological pressure, and some people will even lose confidence in life, and serious suicidal tendencies. Medical and nursing staff should carefully assess the psychological condition of patients after surgery, and take corresponding care means according to different situations to help patients pass this painful stage smoothly. (9) Safety care: In the early stage of amputation, patients often forget that they have been amputated and often want to get out of bed without any help, which is very easy to happen accidental danger, especially at night. Therefore, the night shift nurses should increase the number of patrols up to the patient’s ward. During the daytime, patients should be instructed to use assistive tools when walking, while adding bed blocks at the bedside to avoid falling out of bed. (10) Discharge instruction: Medical and nursing staff should teach patients functional exercise and independent use of crutches or walkers before they are discharged from the hospital. Those wearing prostheses should avoid walking long distances, do daily skin care, regularly self-examine the skin of the residual limb, and once the skin is found to be red and broken, immediately suspend the use of the prosthesis and promptly go to the hospital for treatment. Also observe the other foot, once the symptoms of diabetic foot are found, seek immediate medical attention to avoid being amputated again. Diabetic patients must discover the early symptoms of diabetes early and choose the correct diabetes treatment to avoid aggravating the disease and leading to very serious consequences. Diabetes is not scary, what is scary is the various complications of diabetes. There is no way to cure diabetes completely, and medication can only temporarily relieve the condition, not cure it, so do not seek medical help blindly. Patients with diabetes should go to the hospital in time for various examinations, and then treat the disease accurately with the right medicine. This is the only way to effectively control and treat the disease.
