If there are no other special circumstances, a typical scaling treatment takes about 20-30 minutes. Scaling treatment can effectively eliminate bacteria, calculus, pigment and other substances attached to the dental tissues, thus playing a role in the prevention and treatment of oral system diseases. Ultrasonic scaling is currently the most widely used treatment. The procedure is as follows: First, the dental staff will use disinfectant solution to disinfect the internal tissues of the mouth before scaling to reduce the risk of oral infection during the scaling process. Afterwards, the dental tissues are cleaned one by one using ultrasonic high-pressure water, and finally the teeth are polished using a dental cleaner with a polishing machine, and then the mouth is rinsed. This is usually done in about 20-30 minutes. However, if the patient’s dental pigmentation is more serious, special salt will be used to sandblast the oral cavity and the whole treatment process may be extended appropriately. After the scaling treatment, patients should avoid strong irritating foods such as too cold, too hot and too acidic for the first 2 weeks. If the mouth shows symptoms such as persistent bleeding, swelling and pain, the patient needs to receive a follow-up examination at the hospital.
