Children with good palatopharyngeal function after cleft palate surgery may still have “slurred speech” for two main reasons. On the other hand, children with cleft palate may also have the problem of slurred speech that occurs in normal children in the process of language development. This problem also requires speech therapy to improve. Therefore, the cleft palate needs to be actively followed up by the doctor for a speech evaluation and treatment as required.
