How long does it take to return to normal walking with a broken heel bone

Patients with heel fractures can usually return to normal walking after 8-12 weeks, depending on the individual patient. Heel fractures are common in clinical practice and are mainly caused by a fall from a height. If the patient has a mild heel fracture with no displacement and a normal heel bone, he can gradually return to walking after 4-5 weeks of plaster fixation. If the heel fracture is significantly displaced and the shape of the heel bone has changed, surgery is required to reset the fracture and reposition the collapsed joint surface. At 4 weeks after surgery, radiographs can be taken to clarify the alignment of the fracture. If the alignment is good, flexion and extension of the ankle can be done to help increase the flexibility of the joint. At week 8, it is still necessary to take pictures to review the growth of the fracture and whether the fracture line disappears. Once the fracture line disappears, the patient can move to the ground, which usually takes 8-12 weeks. During the recovery period, the patient needs to pay attention to strict braking, and if necessary, oral medication can be taken to activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis.
