Will kidney stones heal without treatment?

Kidney stones are difficult to heal without treatment. Although many particularly small stones do not cause pain to patients, they will slowly grow larger over time, leading to pain, hematuria and other symptoms, and will also seriously damage the kidney function of patients and cause hydronephrosis. For kidney stones less than 0.5cm in diameter, the stones can be discharged by taking medications, such as stone removal granules and urinary stone pills. For kidney stones larger than 0.5cm in diameter, extracorporeal impact lithotripsy can be used to expel the stones. If the kidney stone is particularly serious and causes hydronephrosis, the stone can be broken by extracorporeal lithotripsy first, and then removed by surgery. Patients with kidney stones should drink more water, more than 2000mL per day, and also do more up and down exercises to make the stones move down or discharge through gravity.
