Are psoriasis and psoriasis the same disease?

Psoriasis is a common chronic erythematous scaly skin disease, and the exact mechanism of its occurrence is unknown. Because psoriasis is characterized by multiple layers of silvery-white scales covering the skin lesions, it is called psoriasis in modern medicine. Psoriasis is a very general name for scaly skin diseases in Chinese medicine, and strictly speaking it does not only refer to psoriasis, but may also include some other skin diseases such as ringworm. The modern medical term “ringworm” refers to a number of skin diseases caused by ringworm (fungus) infections, such as ringworm of the head, ringworm of the body, ringworm of the femur, ringworm of the hands and feet, and ringworm of the fingernails. Therefore, psoriasis is not ringworm. It is strictly unscientific to call psoriasis psoriasis, but this name has been used in China for a long time, and many people are familiar and accustomed to this disease name, so some reading materials and media still use it. In fact, it is appropriate to call it psoriasis.
