After fourteen days of taking quadruple medication for Helicobacter pylori, antibiotics can be discontinued. Depending on the gastroscopy report and whether there is also a history of gastric ulcer, chronic gastritis, etc., it may be necessary to continue oral proton pump inhibitors and gastric mucosal protectants.
1. If there is no underlying disease, the medication can be discontinued. It is recommended to repeat the carbon 13 breath test 1 month after discontinuation of the medication to assess the eradication effect of H. pylori. If it is still positive, it indicates that the eradication has failed, and according to the needs of the disease, a second anti-H. pylori treatment may be carried out.
2. If combined with peptic ulcer, after fourteen days of anti-Helicobacter pylori treatment also need to continue oral omeprazole and other proton pump inhibitors to inhibit acid, bismuth pectin and other bismuth to protect the gastric mucous membrane treatment, and if necessary, also need to review the gastroscope to assess the effectiveness of the treatment, adjust the drug program.
Warm reminder: should follow the doctor’s instructions to take the four drugs, not to change the dose or in order to “consolidate the effect of treatment” to extend the course of treatment.
