How to treat bronchitis caused by viral infection

Acute bronchitis is a viral infection with symptoms of coughing and sputum, which often occurs during cold seasons or sudden climate changes. As there are no special antiviral drugs available, symptomatic treatment is the main focus for acute bronchitis. If you have a cough with little sputum, you can take oral cough suppressants, and if you have a cough with a lot of sputum that is not easy to cough up, you can use sputum-suppressing drugs or nebulized expectoration. In case of bronchospasm, you can add wheezing drugs, such as theophylline or β2 agonists. The use of antibacterial drugs is usually not recommended, except when there is evidence of bacterial infection. A light diet and avoidance of spicy and irritating foods should also be observed.
