What’s wrong with a 12-year-old with blood in his stool?



Blood in the stool of a 12-year-old child may be caused by hemorrhoids, anal fissures, rectal polyps, and ulcerative colitis.

1. Hemorrhoids: If there is pain, itching, or even prolapse during defecation, hemorrhoids are suspected.

2. Anal fissure: anal fissure patients generally have less blood in the stool, may have the typical symptoms of constipation, “fear of stool” mentality.

3. Rectal polyps: when rectal polyps cause blood in the stool, it will be accompanied by a sense of urgency and heaviness, and most rectal polyps need to be detected through colonoscopy.

4. Ulcerative colitis: manifested as diarrhea, abdominal pain, discharge of mucus, pus and blood, in addition, there will be some systemic symptoms of infection, such as fever, fatigue, and so on.
