Cystoscopy is more accurate compared to bladder ultrasound in diagnosing lesions in the bladder. Cystoscopy is an invasive procedure and can be painful for the patient. Therefore, for patients who are suspected of having bladder disease, a bladder color ultrasound is often performed first. If the ultrasound examination reveals bladder stones, polyps and other lesions, or lesions that cannot be distinguished by ultrasound, cystoscopy is needed to further clarify the diagnosis. Cystoscopy allows for a clear examination of the inside of the bladder, and also allows for tissue to be taken from the lesion for pathologic biopsy. Cystoscopy will be painful compared to bladder ultrasound, and patients should be psychologically prepared before the examination. Patients should be prepared before the examination.
