Wounds are generally recommended to be sterilized with povidone-iodine. 0.5% povidone iodine can kill most of the pathogens and has little irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. It is commonly used for disinfecting pediatric skin, treating burns, frostbite, cuts, abrasions, contusions and other types of traumatic injuries, and can also be used for infected wounds, and is therefore more suitable for daily wound disinfection. However, for people who are allergic to iodine, it is not suitable for sterilizing with iodophor. Medical alcohol is 72% alcohol, which can effectively kill common pathogens, but alcohol is irritating and will cause obvious pain, and prolong the healing time of wounds and increase scarring, so medical alcohol is mainly used for complete skin or medical equipment disinfection. Therefore, it is generally recommended to use iodophor to disinfect wounds, and if the wound is large enough to require suturing and debridement, it is recommended to seek medical treatment promptly after disinfection.
