Angelica can generally be taken by pregnant women when indicated. However, if not necessary, it is generally not clinically recommended during pregnancy.
Angelica sinensis is sweet, pungent and warm in nature. It enters the spleen, liver and heart meridians. Angelica has the effect of tonifying blood to regulate menstruation and activating blood circulation to relieve pain (by removing blood stasis to relieve pain). It is mainly used in the treatment of irregular menstruation, abdominal pain during menstruation, menstrual closure, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling) and blood deficiency.
Adverse effects are rare when Angelica sinensis is used in normal doses. Note: Caution should be exercised in cases of dampness obstructing the middle and fullness of the body, fire and loose stools. It is not recommended for patients with spleen deficiency.
Angelica sinensis is a blood-activating and menstruation-regulating drug, which may cause bleeding or miscarriage during pregnancy, therefore, it is not recommended to take it during pregnancy if it is not necessary for the treatment of the disease.
If a pregnant woman needs to use Angelica sinensis, she should be prescribed by a professional physician after clear identification of the disease, and should not use Angelica sinensis or other medicines during pregnancy to avoid unnecessary risks to herself or the fetus.
