Atractylodes macrocephala has the efficacy of strengthening the spleen, benefiting qi, consolidating the surface and stopping sweating (stopping sweating by consolidating the muscle surface), drying dampness and inducing diuresis, and tranquilizing the fetus. It is used in treating weakness of spleen and qi, spontaneous sweating due to qi deficiency, phlegm (a pathological product of impaired water metabolism), palpitation and dizziness, edema, dysuria (unruly urination), and restlessness of the fetus. Caution should be exercised in the use of Atractylodes macrocephala if there is heat in yin deficiency and if dryness and heat injure the fluids.
