Diabetes is diagnosed in combination with the presence or absence of symptoms such as polyuria, polydipsia, and unexplained weight loss, along with intravenous glucose results.
For fasting blood glucose of 7.1 (7.1 mmol/l), the diagnosis of diabetes cannot be made on the basis of this result alone. It is recommended that a hospital visit be made to improve tests such as glucose tolerance test, glycosylated hemoglobin, and islet function, as well as the presence of symptoms such as polyuria, polydipsia, and unexplained weight loss, to clearly diagnose diabetes.
Symptoms of diabetes (polyuria, polydipsia, unexplained weight loss) plus random intravenous glucose (any time during the day, regardless of the time of the last meal) ≥11.1 mmol/l, or fasting glucose ≥7.0 mmol/l, or glucose tolerance test 2 hours glucose ≥11.1 mmol/l. And in the absence of symptoms of diabetes, with only one fasting glucose ≥7.0 mmol/l or glucose tolerance test 2 hours /The diagnosis needs to be clarified by a repeat blood glucose test on another day.
Also, if the fasting blood glucose of 7.1 mmol/l is measured by a blood glucose meter, it is still not a diagnosis of diabetes.
