herpes simplex virus (HSV)

There are herpes simplex virus types I and II. Most herpes simplex virus keratitis is caused by herpes simplex virus type I; type II infects the genitals and can occasionally cause eye infections. Infections caused by herpes simplex virus type I are categorized as primary or recurrent; the vast majority of adults have been exposed to the herpes simplex virus, and most are asymptomatic. After primary infection, the herpes simplex virus lurks in the trigeminal ganglion. When the body’s resistance drops or when it is stimulated, the latent virus activates and retrogrades along the nerve axons to the sensory nerve endings, causing recurrent infection and the onset of the disease. Therefore, it is transmitted from person to person. Reproductive infections occur when adults with herpes simplex virus type I kiss their children or when their children are in close contact, when adolescents kiss adults, and occasionally when they have sexual intercourse. Herpes simplex virus is highly contagious to people, the vast majority of people have been infected, seropositivity rate of 90%, molecular biology examination can be up to 55% ~ 94% of the people were infected. type II is based on sexual contact, but also due to sexual intercourse and eye infections, newborns can be infected through the birth canal.
