The length of time it takes to treat a cryptococcal lung infection will depend on the different symptoms. If only relatively mild symptoms are present, it can be treated with itraconazole or fluconazole and some patients may get better in 1-2 months. For patients with more severe symptoms and low immunity, amphotericin B should be preferred for treatment, which may take 3-4 years in some patients with severe disease. The duration of medication in most patients depends on the cryptococcal culture, and the negative serum podococcal polysaccharide antigen, and also depends on the absorption of CT lesions, which can be discontinued if they disappear completely, or if the lesions are only streaky and stable for 2 months.
