What is the purpose of neonatal hearing screening?

In a broad sense, universal newborn hearing screening is a systematic social eugenics project, which should include its work objectives, work content and operation mode. In a narrower sense, universal newborn hearing screening refers to the use of objective physiological methods and subjective tests to screen all newborns born alive. The purpose is threefold: 1. To screen newborns and infants with congenital or neonatal hearing impairment during hospitalization at birth and at 42 days, so that infants and children with suspected hearing impairment receive audiological and medical evaluation within the first 3 months of life. Infants and toddlers diagnosed with hearing impairment should receive intervention by health care professionals and professional educators with expertise in pediatric hearing impairment before 6 months of age. 3.Infants and toddlers with suspected delayed or progressive hearing impairment should receive audiological and medical monitoring for a period of 3 years, regardless of the results of their prior hearing screening, to allow for early detection and diagnosis and intervention.
