How late does the child speak?

Normally, a child will speak at the latest around 2 weeks of age. How early a child speaks is related to genetics, language environment, training, and the child’s personality. Typically, teething begins at 3-4 months of age, simple words can be spoken by 1 year of age, single words or words by 1 1/2 years of age, and short sentences around 2 years of age. If a child is still unable to speak at the age of 2 weeks, or only speaks simple words, he or she may have delayed language development, autism, or a tongue tie that is too long or too short. It is recommended that he or she be seen by a pediatrician or psychiatrist at a hospital in a timely manner for professional diagnosis and treatment based on specific circumstances. Parents should not be too anxious to guide their children to open their mouths, communicate and interact with them more in their lives, create opportunities for expression and dialogue, and create a good language environment.
