How to read the down screening report card

There are generally three types of results on the Down’s syndrome report card: high risk, critical risk and low risk. The Down’s syndrome results are used to determine the probability of the fetus developing Down’s syndrome based on the level of risk. Generally speaking, different diseases have different risk values, for example, the high risk of trisomy 21 is higher than 1:250, the critical risk is between 1:250-1:500, and the low risk is lower than 1:500. when the risk value of the Down’s syndrome test is 1:500 or less, it means that the probability of having a Down’s syndrome baby is low, and the result on the report card is low risk. When the risk value is 1:100, the probability of having a Down’s syndrome baby is high, and the result on the report card will show a high risk. When there are results of high risk and critical risk, it is not a diagnosis of Down syndrome, it just means that the probability is high and further prenatal diagnosis, such as amniocentesis chromosome test, is needed.
