What are the symptoms of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection

Infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae can be categorized as adult female gonorrhea, adult male gonorrhea, etc. Symptoms vary and may include frequent urination, urgency of urination, painful urination, redness and swelling of the vulva, and other symptoms.
1. Adult female gonorrhea: the most common is cervicitis, which manifests as mucous discharge changing to purulent, redness, swelling and tenderness of the cervical opening. It can also cause urethritis and parurethritis, and the patient manifests redness and swelling of the urethral opening, with pressure and pain and purulent discharge, and symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency and pain.
2. Adult male gonorrhea: mainly acute urethritis, initially manifested as burning, itching, redness and swelling of the urethral opening, with a small amount of mucus discharge.
3. Gonococcal vulvovaginitis in young girls: most of them are infected by close contact with their gonorrheal parents and sharing bathroom utensils, manifesting as fever, redness and swelling of the vulva, burning pain.
4. Gonococcal conjunctivitis: often caused by direct contact with secretions or indirect contact with gonococcal contaminated articles, manifested by eye congestion and edema, and more purulent discharge.
5. Gonococcal pharyngitis: most of the patients have no symptoms, and some of them have dry throat, sore throat, painful swallowing, and purulent secretion in the throat. A few are accompanied by fever and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck.
6. Gonococcal skin infection: clinically rare, mostly caused by urethral secretions contaminating other parts of the skin, such as small pustules or ulcers on the glans, fingers and other places.
