How to treat joint pain due to stagnation of qi and blood

The stagnation of blood and qi that leads to joint pain belongs to the category of “paralysis” in traditional Chinese medicine, which can be treated with Wu Tou Tang, Bai Hu Jia Gui Zhi Tang, Shuang He Tang and other formulas according to the syndrome of wind-cold-dampness paralysis, rheumatism-heat paralysis (which often manifests itself as burning, pain, redness and swelling of the joints), and the syndrome of phlegm-blood stasis and paralysis obstruction. 1. Rheumatic-heat paralysis: can be treated with Bai Hu Plus Gui Zhi Tang, which has the effect of clearing heat, dispelling wind and removing dampness, and is mainly composed of Gypsum, Zhi Mu, Gui Zhi, Japonica Rice, Licorice and other Chinese herbs. If there are ecchymosis on the skin, add mudanpi and dicotyledonin, etc. If there is excessive heat and injury to the body fluid, and thirst and heartburn are seen, add tian dong, maitong, and sheng dihuang, etc. 3. Phlegm and stasis paralytic obstruction syndrome: treat with Shuanghe Tang, which is mainly composed of peach kernel, safflower, chuanxiong, white peony, Radix et Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Poria, Pinellia, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, etc., which can dissolve phlegm and dispel stasis, and alleviate paralysis (removing numbness of the limbs) and open up the collaterals. If the symptoms are more serious, Dan Shen, Cow Knee, Chicken Blood Vine or Centipede, Dilong and Scorpion are added.
